The Baroque has left a mark on Vinkovci, particularly on its main square which is a striking example of Baroque town architecture and 'represents an area of high cultural, historical, urbanistic, architectural, stylistic and aesthetic value for Vinkovci'. The main square, named after the Viceroy Josip Šokčević, is dominated by the town park which was founded in 1868, and in whose center is the monument to the Holy Trinity. The Baroque parish church of Sts. Eusebius and Pollio built in 1777 is also located in the park. The park is surrounded on one side by the building of the Brod Property Agency, built in the Art Nouveau style, with two façades. On the corner of the building, below the frontal turret, is a memorial tablet in honor of Josip Runjanin, the composer of the Croatian anthem. Josip Runjanin was born in Vinkovci, where he also spent a part of his life. Opposite the building of the Brod Property Agency is the building of the High School dating back to 1879, when it was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Vinkovci high school. On the other side, the square is surrounded by one of the oldest buildings in Vinkovci, the Vinkovci Town Museum. The building dates back to 1776 and displays characteristics of the Military Frontier Baroque architecture. At the edge of the park, beneath a big clock and behind arches, is the Vinkovci Tourist Board. Not far from the town center, in the so-called Little Park, is one of Vinkovci's most precious monuments, the Gothic Church of St. Elias on Meraja, built in the early 14th century. The church lost its ecclesiastical function in 1777, and it does not have it today. Nearby is the monument to St. Roch showing his wounded knee, which was again injured by shells during the Homeland War at that very spot. Vinkovci is a town with a number of green squares and parks, the largest of which is Lenije. This park in the center is the very heart of the town. Vinkovci's architectural heritage is as rich as the town's history.
